Did you notice how in the scene where Victor arrives at the hotel room with Chris, saying he’s freezing, he’s using his “I’m speaking japanese” accent? Victor is speaking in japanese with Yuri! I though that was such a cute little touch!! They’re learning eachother’s languages!

fyeahyurionice:

I haven’t noticed that accent omg. Victor spent pretty long time with Yuuri and I’m sure he’s fluent at Japanese now, so now it’s Yuuri’s turn to learn husband’s language. You go Katsuki!! We believe in you!!

the creators of the show have stated in an interview that yuuri and victor mostly communicate in english (kubo-sensei was like, yuuri studied in america, so his english is pretty superb!! lol i love her) but this headcanon that they’re learning each other’s language is one i can get behind!!Ā

iirc, one fan made a post speculating that victor probably started learning a bit of japanese ever since the banquet when he Fell In Love, but episode 10 supported this idea of him learning japanese because his camera setting is in japanese now! it used to be in the default english

i wouldn’t say he was fluent when he first arrived in japan though. in episode 4, when yuko and nishigori were talking to yuuri about the qualifiers, victor didn’t understand what they were talking about and asked yuuri what the conversation was (the one where he leaned onto yuuri). but we’ve seen him talking in bits of japanese based on hisĀ ā€œi’m talking in japanese accentā€ as described by makochibana, like the one where he promoted hasetsu in ep 3 right before the onsen on ice competition and in ep 4 when he wasĀ ā€œooh japanese dogeza!!ā€ lol

tldr victor is learning japanese and he’s so precious (and so is yuuri with russian because in ep 8 and 9 he said davai and spasibo which isn’t a lot i know but hey at least we know he’s trying lol)Ā

I love how the entire plot of Yuri on Ice went fromĀ

ā€œDepressed Japanese figure skater, Yuri Katsuki, has his idol, world champion Russian figure skater Viktor Nikiforov fall in love with him when he becomes his coach after seeing a viral video of him skating to one of his routinesā€

To

ā€œWorld champion Russian figure skater, Viktor Nikiforov, falls in love with a drunk Japanese figure skater, Yuri Katsuki, at a banquet party and decides to become his coach a few months after not having seen him,Ā upon seeing a viral video of him skating to one of his routines, ultimately making Yuri fall in love with him as well.ā€Ā

In just one plot twist.

I love how this episode finally showed us how much of an unreliable narrator Yuri has been like… The first ep we saw showed him last year chickening out in front of Victor and running away, thinking he’d spoiled his chance to meet his idol. Then this episode comes out and it’s like…. boy no you got drunk, had a dance off that included mostly-nude pole dancing, then begged Victor to coach you as he flat out fell for you like Russian Icarus getting too close to the light in your eyes

I absolutely love this though because, Yuuri has been an unreliable narrator right from the beginning.

He’s always described himself as a mediocre third-rate skater… but he qualified for the Grand Prix Final last year, so he had to have medaled a LOT to pull that off. He’s intimidated by Minami who beat him the previous year because Minami is obviously a superior skater… but Minami looks up to Yuuri as an inspiration for skating. He describes himself as a disappoint and a failure, but background shots of his family’s inn show that he has a crap ton of trophies, and his entire home town thinks he’s a hero.

And now, at long last, the show has given us the biggest twist yet. Yuuri has convinced the entire Ā audience that Victor is the desirable one, Victor is the catch, Victor is the unattainable idol to be pursued, but he’s not.

This whole time, Victor’s been the admirer, the one doing the chasing. And neither Yuuri nor the audience had realized that until now.

ā€œMy theme in this year’s Grand Prix series is love.Ā  I’ve been helped by many people in my competitive skating career thus far, but I’ve never thought about love until now. Though I was blessed with support, I couldn’t take full advantage of it. I always felt like I was fighting alone. But since Viktor showed up to be my coach, I’ve seen something totally different. My love is not something clear-cut like romantic love, but the more abstract feeling of my relationships with Viktor, family, and hometown.. I was able to realise something like love exists all around me. Viktor is the first person I’ve ever wanted to hold on to. I don’t have a name for that emotion, but I have decided to call it love. Now that I know what love is and am stronger for it, I’ll prove it to myself with a Grand Prix Final gold medal!ā€
