i dont get offended at white people jokes even though im white because:
i can recognize white people as a whole have systemically oppressed POC in america, which is where i live
most people when they make white people jokes only mean the shitty white people and i am not a shitty white person
im not a pissbaby
my white friends that have reblogged this give me life
4. Sometimes I am a shitty white person and the jokes remind me to FUCKIN STOP
If ur white and like this post I fux with u
^absolutely
5. It’s hard to be offended when white people jokes involve bland food/tourist dads in socks and sandals/white girls in yoga pants obsessed with pumpkin spice/suburban PTA moms and other harmless and mostly true stereotypes while jokes about POC involve them being called thugs/criminals/slurs/uneducated/illegal immigrants.
i fucks with u heavy if ur white and you reblog this
6. They’re usually really fucking funny and don’t perpetuate stereotypes that will ever affect me economically, politically, or cause me any true harm, let alone create risks that “justify” my murder and/or death
Waits for my white mutuals to reblog😌
yesyesyesyes
7. if I expect dudes not to “not all men” me how can I rly “not all white people” since it’s asking for the same exemption
“They’re afraid of losing friends, being ridiculed in class, getting worse grades and are even afraid of being assaulted and physically hurt.”
good
no, not good. because if we hate them as much as Trump and his supporters hate certain groups, we are no better than they are.
yeah I am
“if you hate these bigots you’re just as bigoted as they are”
This “we’re no better than them” mentality makes the critical mistake that hate itself is the problem.
Hate is not the problem. At all. Hate can be constructive. Hate can be defensive and come from righteous outrage.
The problem is irrational hate towards innocent people.
Hating a racist is COMPLETELY fucking different from hating a race. A whole race didn’t do anything wrong. A racist did. Hating the racist is 100% proportionate, justifiable retaliation.
Fucking. Mic. Drop.
The reason that hate groups like the Klan have been driven so near to extinction is because of this exact thing. It became unfashionable to be publicly racist, and the backlash against those kinds of groups became unbearable for them. It drove them out of the limelight and into the very fringes of society.
This postmodern “hating the hate makes you just as bad” bullshit is what’s allowing them to re-prosper.
Fuck that.
Expose them. Make them lose their friends. Ridicule them in classes. If you can get away with it, beat their asses. Show them what it means that we will not go back to that way of life again. It’s time for the racists to be the ones who live in fear.
My least favorite thing in the world is when someone says they didn’t like Aristotle and Dante because the ending was “too predictable” like… what kind of heterosexual bullshit. It is not predicatable. You know what would of been predictable? One of them dying.
Nothing is going to change. Americans love their guns more than they love people and after Sandy Hook we decided that killing over 20 children was acceptable and not outrageous enough to make reasonable restrictions on guns. This is America, a country that has been around for 200 years, a superpower, a 1st world nation, and one of the wealthiest countries on the planet and we refuse to protect our own people. We respect guns more than we respect the lives of people.
What specific gun control measures would you propose and how would they directly and effectively make society safer?
Absolutely get rid of all AR-15′s and the like.
Intense background and criminal background checks and anything violent automatically disqualifies you.
Make getting a gun/gun permit more like getting a driver’s license:
permit to learn
includes an exam with 18 or more questions on the policies, laws, and etc of guns and gun ownership
if you get more than 8 questions incorrect you must retake it.
30 hours of practical experience at a gun range with a licensed teacher
Must take a 5 hour class on the dangers of guns and how to use them safely which will then yield you a certificate that grants you to take the practical exam and lasts for one year. If you don’t gain the license within the allotted year you must retake the class.
A practical exam with a licensed instructor who will grade you on various skills. If you pass you may be granted a permit on the weapon of your choice, the exams may differ on the type of firearm you want.
Follow the Japanese model where you must have two gun safes in different areas of the house, one to store the gun and one to store the bullets and you must provide the police with information on where those safes are.
No concealed carry and only handguns may be allowed to be out in public.
If transporting a weapon, it must be in the trunk of the vehicle, in a bag or some other case, safety on and unloaded and may not leave the vehicle until you are at the destination.
If you’re a hunter or some other gun hobbyist that requires a functional weapon other than a handgun then the gun must stay on the premises, whether that is a gun range or the Fish and Wildlife facility.
If you live in a rural area where police (and people, for that matter) are few and far between, something akin to a deer hunting rifle should provide plenty of protection from predators and poachers, you still have to follow the aforementioned steps.
This doesn’t cover everything but I think it’s a good place to start.
Can you show me evidence that this would directly and effectively create a safer society?
I have never laughed so hard at a gun law post. Like seriously, the evidence is in fucking reality. The proposed restrictions are just fucking logic.
high school au where every time katsuki yuuri walks past viktor nikiforov gasps and softly whispers ‘i’m gay’ to which his entire lunch table responds with a chorus of ‘we know’
‘i hope someday he’ll notice me,’ thinks yuuri wistfully, sitting three rows behind VIKTOR NIKIFOROV in calculus while viktor is mentally rehearsing his WILL YOU GO TO PROM WITH ME? invitation to katsuki yuuri, the love of his life, via interpretive dance
obviously (obviously), yuuri hears through the grapevine that viktor nikiforov has a crush and spends the rest of the term moping. little does he know that viktor is at this very moment drawing little hearts around the cyrillic for ‘yuri nikiforov’ in his english lit notebook. yuri plisetsky, a freshman, wishes he could transfer schools
This is gonna be a long post and I’m on mobile so incorporating pics is hard – sorry for all the words.
So I’ve seen a lot of posts relating the “cannon-ness” of Yuri and Victor’s relationship to the exchange of the words “I love you.” But here’s the thing – this anime was written and produced in Japan, by a Japanese person who, clearly, wanted to convey a very realistic and normal romantic relationship. Allow me to elaborate.
The Shoujo and BL genres are full of grandiose love confessions and large public displays of physical affection, but those types of things are considered a sort of fantasy – Japanese culture, and real romance in the culture of Japan, is very reserved. Many couples might never exchange the words “I love you” and displays of physical affection are VERY private and considered embarrassing in public. This shows largely in Yuri’s character – the only physical affection we see him initiate in public (aside from actions driven by intoxication) is hugging, and then only when he is overcome with emotion. His proposal was very Japanese in nature – not direct, but in his mind, very clear in intent. In fact, the only reason we, the audience, ever get any clear signals of romance is because of Victor – Victor is the one to say in so many words that they are engaged. Victor initiates a public kiss, which was censored, I believed largely in part for the sake of privacy, even in this moment of extreme public affection. And this is only because Victor isn’t Japanese, and wouldn’t have the same reservation with being more straightforward. Victor is a very large part of what makes their romance so globally accessible.
Now, to circle back to my earlier point – that this anime tries very hard to convey a realistic, healthy relationship as opposed to a dramatic, fantastical one. This is important, again due to cultural context. Relationships between two people of the same gender are not considered normal or positive in Japan. They are stigmatized, fetishized, blemishes to a family name. They are popularly a fantasy in fictive story-telling, and even at that they are a fantasy for straight women, not queer individuals. The creators of this show wanted to convey, not necessarily an everyday romance, but one that would be more grounded, healthy an unfetishized. A romantic subplot you might see between male and female characters. The evidence of this is very largely in the quietest scenes of the anime – the beach scene. Had this been a Shoujo or BL anime, this scene would have played out very differently. It would have been a moment of confession, of fluttering heartbeats, of blushy eye contact but that’s not what we got. We got a true heart-to-heart, two characters coming together and building trust with each other in a moment of vulnerability. We see this again in their little spat in episode 10. This scene played out very realistically. They argued a bit, got frustrated, and well of course we know how the rest of the night went. In a romantic genere, this might have lead to a breakup scene, but little spats like this are common in relationships and are hardly ever signs of a couple wanting to break things off. There are so many more scenes I could point out but those two were my favorite examples and you get the idea.
In conclusion I love this show with all my heart and I love all the attention it’s getting, but while it is very globally digestible thanks to the high diversity of character, you cannot remove this show from the context in which it was written, from the person who wrote it. Victor and Yuri’s relationship IS 100% cannon, but you cannot impose western expectations on the way in which the story unfolds.
There were so so so many moments in the episode where i was like “YES here we are… an emotional culmination is about to happen!!” Like either before yuri’s free skate or after, or during their argument in the beginning. And we came so close! But the conversation was always cut off so abruptly …… if you think about it episode 7 had a much shorter argument/resolution but felt so satisfying because yuri and victor made a significant step forward in their relationship. But now we as the audience know that the only thing left for them to do is to draw the line. The whole “let’s get married after you get gold”, talks of retirement or not etc… all this that needs to be aired out. A line between fiances and coach/student. And if there’s a season 2 it makes sense that none of this was wrapped up. But ill be so crushed if we never see them define their relationship fully…
With Yakov and likely his other rinkmates who know his habits, Victor’s hug is actually not an affection thing or a reassurance but an SOS call.
Guess what he did in episode 12.
“Help me, Yuri. I can’t do this. Yuuri’s retiring and I can’t stop him. I cried and I can’t stop him. Please skate your best. Please stop him from retiring. It’s still not too late right now, he still hasn’t completely decided. I can’t think of anyone who can save both of us but you.”
…………..and literally any salt I had remaining for Yurio getting the gold just vanished in the blink of an eye. GOOD JOB WITH THAT SKATE, SON.
