staff:

🚨 The internet needs you 🚨

You’re up again, Tumblr.Ā

Back in 2015 you demanded that the FCC adopt strict net neutrality rules and establish a free and open internet. And you won.Ā

That should’ve been the end of it. But apparently not.

The new head of the FCC wants to undo the net neutrality protections you fought so hard for.

His proposed changes open the door to your web traffic being slowed down, or even blocked altogether. You could be forced to pay extra to use your favorite apps. You could even be prevented from getting news from the sources you trust.

Title II protects consumers and democracy by ensuring all voices can be heard.

You know the drill. Here’s what to do:

The FCC is taking comments from the public, and dearfcc.org is making it as simple as possible for you to make your voice heard.

Go there now šŸ‘‰Ā dearfcc.orgĀ āœŒļø

You’ll just need to provide a name, an address, and then say a little bit about why rolling back Title II protections is a bad idea. If you’re not quite sure what to write, here’s something to get you started:

I’m writing to urge you to keep our Open Internet rules based on Title II in place. Without them, we could lose the internet as we know it.

The proposed changes to FCC rules would allow fast lanes for sites that pay, and force everyone else into slow lanes. We’ve already seen access to streaming services like Netflix, popular games like League of Legends, and communication platforms like FaceTime slowed down, or even blocked. Conditions like this hurt businesses large and small, and penalize the users who patronize them.Ā

The changes also open the door to unfair taxes on internet users, andĀ could also make it harder for blogs, nonprofits, artists, and others who can’t pay up to have their voices heard.

Please leave the existing net neutrality rules based on Title II in place.

Thank you!

If you need more ammo, feel free to quote these expertsĀ from our net neutrality Issue Time. TechCrunchĀ and Battle for the Net also have some good starters.

Everyone is counting on everyone else here. Do your part and tell the FCC to keep a free and open internet under Title II.Ā

freckletriangleofdoom:

Net neutrality is the principle that Internet providers like Comcast & Verizon should not control what we see and do online. In 2015, startups, Internet freedom groups, and 3.7 million commenters won strong net neutrality rules from the US Federal Communication Commission (FCC). The rules prohibit Internet providers from blocking, throttling, and paid prioritization—"fast lanes" for sites that pay, and slow lanes for everyone else.

IF YOU ARE READING THIS, CHANCES ARE YOU GO ON THE INTERNET EVERYDAY. THE FCC IS NOW PLANNING ON REPEALING NET NEUTRALITY. THIS MEANS THAT POPULAR WEBSITES WILL RUN SLOWLY UNTIL YOU PAY AN EXTRA FEE. WE WOULD NO LONGER HAVE THE PRIVILEGE OF USING WEBSITES AND RESEARCHING FOR FREE.Ā

TEXT ā€˜RESIST’ AT 50409 AND TELL YOUR SENATORS THAT NET NEUTRALITY NEEDS TO STAY.

Seriously. Resistbot is great. Text it. It lets you write a letter it then faxes to the offices of your congresspeople and senators. If you keep getting told thatĀ ā€˜messages are full’ when you try to call on the phone, try Resistbot.Ā

Also, if you have anxiety about speaking to people on the phone, Resistbot requires no human interaction. You write a letter via text, resistbot does the rest.Ā

Support net neutrality? Let them know. FCC phone # 202-418-1000. Email: Ajit.Pai@fcc.gov

use resistbot. use the stance app. pressure your members of congress to take action EVERY DAY.

This teacher should be rewarded not suspended.

If you made a donation to The International Anti-Fascist Defence Fund before February, then some of your money went directly to this teacher to help pay her rent & put food on the table while she fought her 20-day suspension.Ā

We set up the Defence Fund to help anti-fascists and anti-racists whenever their stance against hate lands them in hot water.Ā  Maybe you should make a donation to the Defence Fund today to ensure it’s there to help the next time a teacher has to do the right thing.

If you’ve got the money to spend, using it to help people like this teacher who take a stand against nazi scum is a good use of it ā¤

I just wanna talk to whoever thought this was a good idea

This is probably even more shady than it seems. They raise the rates and then less people go. Low attendance numbers leads to that park getting less attention and less money. This discourages new parks and devalues current parks. Then the government can be like ā€œlol people don’t care about nature let’s drillā€ Parks and libraries should be free places for people to enrich themselves, but smart sheep aren’t worth anything šŸ‘

^^^This. It’s why they’re also slashing park funding. According to the linked article, the current budget proposal includes:

  • Cutting base operating funding by $132 million, affecting at least
90 percent of parks. This includes cuts to law enforcement, health and
safety, natural and cultural resource projects, and volunteer and youth
    programs.
  • Cutting 1,242 staff positions.
  • A 37 percent cut to the Historic Preservation Fund.
  • A drastic cut to federal Land and Water Conservation Fund, which
helps parks purchase private lands within park boundaries from willing
sellers that would otherwise be vulnerable to inappropriate commercial
    or residential development.
  • Elimination of the National Heritage Area program, which preserves
large historic landscapes managed through innovative partnerships.

Combined with the drastic rate hike, it’s hard to see this as anything other than a ploy to force park closures.Ā

This proposal is currently open for public comments and will be open until November 23.

Comments can be written by anyone. You don’t have to live in America.

Please write a comment saying how much you love the parks or a certain park or why you think this is a bad idea. If you don’t live in America write something about how you travel here to see the parks or how you wish that your country had a park service like America (the American government loves having its ego stroked)

Public comments are the only thing the park service is going to see. They aren’t going to see how many notes this post gets, they’re going to look at that comments page to see how many people they would tick off it they did this. So please, reblog this post but go comment, it’s the only way to let the parks service know how you feel.

PLEASE do this ^^^

So proud of my mother for doing her own research after I sent her that meme. A sign she hung in her car window.

Stay woke

Is this true?

Not only is it true, it gets worse. The Susan G Komen For The Cure Foundation has actually successfully sued ā€œcompetingā€ charities, becauseĀ (paraphrasing)Ā their ā€œmessage or branding was infringing.ā€

You read that correctly: they took money that people had donated to cure cancer, and hired attorneys with it, to sue ANOTHER group of people trying to find a cure for cancer, who, in turn, had to us their donated money to hire their own legal counsel to defend themselves.

Yeah signal boost because not enough people know about this and seriously FUCK SUSAN G. KOMEN THEY ARE THE ACTUAL WORST

It’s that time of year again, please remember Komen is the actual worst

Komen For The Cure is pretty much awful.

My mother died in 1996 from breast cancer. Most cancer charities are scams, in that people throw fancy parties and get rich off them and very little money goes into research or support for patients. Here are some vetted cancer charities that get good scores on Charity Navigator and pay medical expenses or fund research:

Cancer Research Institute

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute

Discord recently banned their nazi community.Ā  Let’s have Tumblr do the same.Ā  Hundreds of neo-nazi and white supremacists feel at home on Tumblr and that needs to change.

They don’t respond to reports and apparently won’t care about anything other than intense negative publicity – so this is the best we can do for now.

———————-

Following Discord’s recent shutdown of racist alt-right servers, we ask that Tumblr takes neo-nazis and other white supremacy groups more seriously instead of repeatedly ignoring reports on violent language.

I’ve reported several neo-nazi types to staff, including those who have posts like ā€œgas the k-kesā€ and ā€œkill n-gger apesā€ alongside nazi imagery and romanticized portraits of Hitler. Ā This is the response I get every time.

> Hello,

> Thanks for bringing this to our attention; we really appreciate your efforts to make

> Tumblr a safer place for everyone.

> We do strongly suggest you block this user. You can find out more about how to

> do that here: https://www.tumblr.com/docs/en/social#blockactions

Tumblr staff – by ignoring the rampant and violent hate problem within their community – are providing a safe place for violent fascists and other racists to feel at home.

This specially ironic since Tumblr pretends to stand with Charlottesville victims despite actively hosting neo-nazi groups (look under the tag #fashblr). Ā

It’s outrageous that Tumblr staff refuses to ban these hate communities, and even more insulting that they pretend to be at the forefront of social justice. Ā We want our communities to feel safe, and that cannot continue with the large neo-nazi presence. Ā Multiple have already died in the past few months because of this ideology.

It’s clear that Tumblr will not respond to anything except negative publicity or advertisers leaving their network. Ā So please let them know how the Tumblr community feels by signing and sharing.

What we need to happen:

1. Take reports more seriously. Ā Do not just ask the user to block a dangerous user.

2. Explicitly condemn this hate speech in your Terms of Service. Ā Although it already is to an extent, staff does not seem to follow their own rules.

3. Stop giving a safe place for Nazis and white nationalists. Ā This behavior has NO place on Tumblr and you must remove those inciting hatred and violence.

4. Assign moderators to deal with this issue internally.

Thank you for your help.

help buy grace a wheelchair attachment to get her to university

hi everyone!! my name is grainne but i go by grace! i’m from scotland in the uk and i have cerebral palsy, this year i’ve been offered a place at university!! but my university is built on a lot of hills and i would struggle to get to classes on my own. i really really value my independence so i am looking to buy an electric wheelchair attachment to help me get around – a SMARTDriveMX2!! it’s a wheel that attaches to the back of your wheelchair to give you more power going up hills.

i can’t stress how much this would improve my life, not only for university, but just in general as getting around on my own can be really difficult. if i was to get this it would be like a weight off my shoulders, i could go to university, i could go travelling, go shopping ect just normal things without having to worry about being tired or sore!! the freedom that abled bodied people get doesn’t seem so far away!

the only problem is that theĀ SMARTDriveMX2 is Ā£5750 and i start university in september!! i really hate to ask anyone for money but there’s no way i can afford this on my own – so if you can please please donate!!

myĀ justgiving (my mum made this page so it’s in her name)

if you aren’t able to donate i totally understand – but please share this page and message far and wide!! thank you so so much!! xx

i’m sorry i’m always reblogging this but i’m really worried i won’t get the funding in time!! thank you to everyone who’s helped out so far ā¤

i cant donate myself but if anyone else can please do!! xx
