YOI at the Seiyuu Awards

accioharo:

Tonight was the 12th Annual Seiyuu Awards, and our YOI cast picked up some impressive hardware:

Toshiyuki Toyonaga won the award for best leading performances from an actor during the year for his role of Yuuri Katsuki.

Junichi Suwabe won the award for best supporting performances from an actor during the year for his role as Victor Nikiforov.

This is Toshiyuki’s first time winning this award. I’m so pleased with this. Both Toshyuki and Junichi did an amazing job, and for me, Toshiyuki’s nuanced, realistic portrayal (he was told to use a more normal voice, to sound less ‘anime’, which he says was actually a lot harder), is one of the highlights of the show. He brings so much to the character, and his approach is a lot of why Yuuri works so well.

Toshiyuki cried while receiving his award, and the ceremony ended with them playing You Only Live Once.
