the days are not as painful anymore. neil doesn’t wake up with the itch in his legs telling him to move, that this is too good to be true, that he’s stalling and that somehow, his past will catch up to him.
andrew no longer opens his eyes expecting pain, and fearing finding a mess bigger than he left it the night before. when he wakes up, it’s to neil’s unruly hair and weary eyes, and a hoarse ‘yes or no?’.
the days are not as painful anymore. some days, andrew will completely shut neil out, but they both know he’ll eventually come back around. some days, neil still finds himself looking for the nearest exits and escape routes, but they both know if neil ever feels the need to run again, he’ll run to andrew.
