Andrew and Kevin stay close friends after leaving the Foxes and going pro.

  • Andrew calls Kevin roughly once a week to just complain about people: Neil not taking out the trash, his teammates being nosy, his neighbors being loud.
  • The first time Andrew does this, Kevin is confused and tries to turn it into an actual conversation.
  • All he gets is silence before Andrew hangs up on him.
  • The next time he stays quiet until the end and tries to talk about exy. Andrew hangs up again.
  • Kevin’s not really sure that there’ll be a next time but a week and half later, Andrew calls him again.
  • Andrew doesn’t really bother to say hi, he just complains a bit about people. Even though he’s complaining about his teammates, he doesn’t complain exy itself.
  • Kevin doesn’t respond but he goes about his business with Andrew still on the other line. There are some stretches of silence while they both go through some minor daily activities.
  • This time there is a brief goodbye. Andrew has to go to a team meeting. Kevin wants to ask about it or give some advice but he holds back any comments he has and just hastily says goodbye before Andrew hangs up again.
  • It takes Kevin a few more phone calls before he realizes what Andrew is doing.
  • Their relationship has always primarily revolved around Exy in some way and when they were living and playing together, that was fine.
  • Kevin realizes later that he knows more about Andrew’s random daily activities than he did when they lived in each other’s pockets because now Andrew is willingly telling him things.
  • They have to decide to stay in contact and decide to maintain a friendship.
  • It becomes a thing that they do. One of them will call when they’re both free and just talk (really complain) about a few things, never directly related to exy. The other person won’t necessarily offer advice but just quietly listen.
  • Sometimes they’ll send a text a few days or hours later asking about something from their phone conversation, but they otherwise don’t talk about them.
  • Andrew and Kevin maintaining friendship not based around Exy after they graduate.
