With the
freshmen comes a new wave of unease and tension in the team.

It’s Neil’s
job, more than ever, to manage frictions between the players and meddle in
everyone’s lives. But it’s one thing to help ease relationships between people
you’ve lived in close quarters and shared trauma with for months and to smooth down
the brazen attitudes of half a dozen inexperienced players trying to fit in
through arrogance.

Neil learns
about the bet through the gossip mill, like always with the Foxes.

“They’re betting
on your love life,” Nicky tells him one day when they’re both pretending to study
in the library.

“Good for
them,” Neil mutters in his math homework.

Nicky’s
foot bumps against his shin. “Which means they’re betting on Andrew.”
