when you realize that one of the very first things the series establishes about adam is that he’s a very pragmatic and careful and responsible person, but also that he and ronan dragged each other behind a moving car for fun

when you realize that despite their bickering, adam actually relaxes completely around ronan and sometimes even lets himself forget his responsibilities for a little while when they’re together

when you realize that ronan actually brings out adam’s carefree side more frequently than any of the other characters

when you realize that adam’s pov chapters tend to be calmer and more focused on the present when ronan is there with him

when you realize that ronan was making adam quiet all along

#to be clear i’m not saying adam’s ambition or pragmatism are bad things #they’re not they’re good things and i love him for them (and so does ronan) #but adam’s aspirations and responsibilities often come with an undercurrent of stress #he works so hard to the point that he almost never gives himself a break to just. be a teenager #but ronan is capable of provoking that carelessness in him #like even when ronan is pissing adam off or stressing him out #it’s on a much more immediate level than when it happens with blue or gansey #adam getting stressed or angry about blue or gansey typically leads to introspection #with him wondering What This Means About Me As A Person #but with ronan he’s just like ‘yeah okay fuck off i don’t care’ and that’s it #plus when they finally do get together adam describes himself as having been ‘senselessly happy’ #and ultimately that’s what i’m getting at with this #i love that ronan makes adam happy #but just as much i love that ronan makes adam senseless #adam has spent too long with the weight of the world on his shoulders #and he deserves someone who makes him forget about all of that for just a little while (@auroralynches)

#I’m just going to lie down in the dirt and cry for a while about my kids #and also #in a way I see adam as also having a similar effect on ronan #because adam is where ronan goes when he wants to feel safe #nights spent on adam’s floor at st. agnes #and adam is who ronan wants to share his quiet moments with #working at the barns #his home#after school #showing adam the things he’s dreamt up #and then there’s adam kissing him #and how it feels like every mile per hour he’d ever gone over the speed limit #and that’s where ronan feels most like himself #where the anger and guilt and everything he felt for so long doesn’t matter #and even though by the time he kisses adam those feelings are already very faded #it still brings him back to that place of wild quiet  (@neiljosten)
