YOOOOO

Okay, so this is a list of the
Top-Selling Media Franchises in Japan: 2017 (First Half).

Look at Yuri on Ice.

Freaking behold.

It’s the second best-selling franchise of 2017, right after One Piece.

An anime that has existed for only 9 months or so, had no previous fanbase and had only a 12 ep TV anime and soundtrack to offer is right behind the market giant – a franchise that has existed since 1997, has currently 85 manga volumes and like 800 anime episodes, a bajilion films, and a number of light novels.

And there’s just 20 million yen difference between them! That’s like $180,000! Between a franchise that’s had a faithful fanbase for 20 years and an anime that hasn’t even been out for one year!

That’s so insane, I can’t get over this at all.

And that’s just talking about the anime that did better than yoi. Look at all the anime that yoi completely defeated. The Idolmaster? Love Live? Touken Ranbu? Even Attack on Titan. They didn’t even stand a chance, despite being huge franchises in Japan.

They laughed when we said Yuri on Ice would make history. Who’s laughing now?
