Andrew stood in the hallway, hands stuffed inside the front pocket of a dark hoodie. Neil opened the door wider and stepped out of the way. Andrew glanced past him before entering the room.

The King’s Men by Nora Sakavic

Sometimes I wonder how nervous Andrew was as he stood outside Neil’s door with his hands buried in his hoodie, using Kevin’s inability to practice as an excuse to see Neil. It’s a conscious step forward in initiating something with Neil, not just a reaction to something Neil said or did. Andrew is actively going after something he wants for himself, which is well out of his apathetic comfort zone.

Even if he thinks he can still back out of ‘this’ at any time.
